Challenging Injustice: The Core of Our Human Rights Advocacy

At the heart of ELOI Ministries Inc. (USA) is a commitment to the fundamental truth that all people deserve to be treated with dignity, regardless of their country of origin. However, the reality for many New Americans is a far cry from this ideal. For those arriving in the United States seeking relief from persecution, the journey often leads not to immediate safety, but to a different kind of trauma—the “renewed pain” of institutional racism and systemic exclusion. Many individuals find themselves placed in detention centers and jails that prioritize enforcement over humanity.

Our advocacy is born from the lived experience of our founder, Tendo Steven, who navigated the complexities of the US asylum system and the challenges of detention. We recognize that the system often operates with a lack of transparency and a disregard for the mental and physical health of those in its custody. ELOIM USA functions as a campaigner and a voice for the voiceless by:

  • Challenging the Detention Model: We advocate for alternatives to the “prison-like” detention of asylum seekers, pushing for more humane, community-based approaches that respect human rights.
  • Holding Power Accountable: We act as a watchdog, using policy expertise to challenge instances of medical neglect, lack of due process, and discriminatory treatment within the immigration system.
  • Educating the Public: Many are unaware of the harsh realities faced by New Americans. We share authentic stories to dismantle stereotypes and build a movement for systemic change.
  • Defending Dignity: Whether it is advocating for better medical care or fair legal representation, our goal is to ensure that the US legal system lives up to its promise of equality and justice for all.

We believe that justice is not a finished product but a constant pursuit. By standing with New Americans, we are not just helping individuals; we are fighting for the soul of a justice system that should represent care and compassion, not fear and isolation.
